Care insurance subsidy - What to consider:

The health insurance company serves as a point of contact for all matters relating to health and therefore also personal mobility. The extent to which the health insurance company will subsidise the purchase of a stairlift depends on a single condition: The applicant must have a care degree. It is best to contact your health insurance company before purchasing a stairlift and find out about the current requirements for your care level and the possibilities of a subsidy or cost coverage by the health insurance company.

What requirements must be met?

Since 1 January 2017, the five care levels enshrined in the Care Strengthening Act 2 have been in force, replacing the previous three care levels. If people in need of care are recognised by the care insurance fund as having a care level, they can apply to their health insurance fund for a financial subsidy for barrier-free (construction) measures. This includes, for example, measures to reduce barriers, such as a stair lift. This is possible as part of the financially viable age-appropriate adaptation of living space.

People with long-term care insurance can claim a one-off subsidy of up to €4,000 for the installation of a stairlift from care level 1. This one-off subsidy is paid out by the long-term care insurance fund to make the living space barrier-free and therefore age-appropriate. The subsidy can be used for any barrier reduction measures. If several people in need of care live in the same home, the maximum subsidy is €4,000 per person in need of care. However, the total amount per measure is limited to 16,000 euros. If the need for assistance changes, it is also possible to receive the subsidy a second time after consultation with the care insurance fund.
