How wide should your staircase be for the installation of a stairlift?
Or how wide does it really need to be?

These are two of the most frequently asked questions, because in addition to the investment, the technical component of an installation is of course also decisive for a stairlift.

There are hundreds - if not thousands - of types of stairs and possibilities. Narrow, steep, winding and many more.

However, we can clearly distinguish between two cases with stairlifts:

  1. This is a stairlift for a curved staircase.
  2. This is a stairlift for a straight staircase.

To ensure a safe journey, you should pay particular attention to the following points:
For a straight staircase, a stair width of approx. 80 cm is often used to ensure a safe journey. You should also take a closer look at the user dimensions, which can have possible effects and restrictions on the installation.

Here is an example:
As a user, you are 1.9 metres tall. Logically, your back and knee measurements are much larger than those of a 1.5 m user. There may also be other factors such as a stiff knee.

Did you know that you can have a straight lift installed for free on a trial basis?
Take a look at our "Free trial lift" video - and see for yourself! The HomeGlide stairlift series offers you maximum safety and comfort within your own four walls.

With curved stairs, however, the planning and especially the system are crucial to ensure a safe journey. Sonilift uses the patented ASL technology for this purpose. This enables you to travel safely even on particularly narrow stairs, such as those 62 cm wide.

Important:
When installing stairlifts, particular attention must be paid to the start and end positions!
